A Record Breaking Good Time at Pitchfork

by Liz - 07/19/09

The bands aren’t the only talent at this year’s Pitchfork Music Fest — the festival goers are really impressing us with their record breaking skillz. Yesterday we saw people break the world record for fastest time to shave one’s mustache and longest time hula hooping on one leg, just to name a couple. If they and the others on our scoreboard hold those records by day’s end today they are going home with a new pair of Saucony Jazz.

Yesterday we also gathered 48 people to set the record for “largest group of people to sing ‘Saturday in the Park’ by Chicago.” Today we’ll try to set the record for most people with their shoelaces tied together.

Meanwhile some of our favorite bands continue to entertain on the three stages. You can check out coverage from our Chicago office teams Venus Zine and WXRT plus our pals from NYC Heeb Magazine.

We’ve hinted at the fact that we were doing something outstanding at Pitchfork, but we weren’t sure if you were ready for it. Now that we’ve changed months & summer weather is finally here, we think it’s time to you let you in on the grandness we’ve been scheming over here.

Saucony Originals has teamed up with Universal Record Database to break records all weekend at Pitchfork. It’s going to be out of control! It’s gonna break your mind!

Choose from a list of 30 records that will give you a chance to win Saucony Originals or create an entirely new one with help from a heaping prop pile. There are also group records to be set! Check back for the scheduled time we’re asking everyone to the space to break the record- Largest Group of People Singing Chicago in the Park. (Don’t worry, we’ll have lyric sheets!)

We’re also going to have some performing bands stop by to try their hand at record breaking. If you’re not into holding world records you should still come by to watch the shenanigans!

URDB on Jimmy Fallon

by nicole - 06/29/09

Universal Record Database- the guys we’re teaming up with at Pitchfork- were on Jimmy Fallon this past Friday. It was hysterical!
They helped Cameron Diaz set a pretty amazing record- Most Bunnies Snuggled While in a Hammock. Although I assume we’ll never know what happened to the two bunnies that would’ve made it 50 as opposed to the recorded 48, we love the creativity of this record.

Check out the show on Hulu here.

We’re taking a couple points away from Fallon whose weak attempt at Most Mustaches Drawn on Strangers in Thirty Seconds can be easily crushed. We invite everyone to come to our area at Pitchfork where URDB will be set up to help you break records all weekend long. We know you can draw more than 14 mustaches in 30 seconds, so come out & show Fallon what’s up!!

Also, stick around to the end of the show to watch Grizzly Bear perform Cheerleader- awesome.

Wiff It!

Summer’s official first day is Sunday June 21, but players in the Saucony Originals Summer Office Team League know summer has begun when they find themselves playing games in Central Park that are usually reserved for seven year olds!

The games kick off with everyone’s thankful return of wiffle ball! There were upsets & blow outs (not what you get with a hair dryer & brush) last year which means teams are going into this game with revenge & defense on the brain.

After the game we’re running… jogging, ok sauntering over to Blondies for pitchers & wings. It’s where the real games begin!

We came, we played, we conquered!

Saucony Originals was so stoked to be a partner in the 4th Annual Come Out & Play Festival last weekend! Over 1,200 people showed up to play 34 wacky, thoughtful, zany, fun, creative and INNOVATIVE games throughout Times Square, Pier 84, Central Park, and parts of Brooklyn.

The turn-out was really strong + spirits were high at Friday night’s opening party. Hijack the Band was a definite highlight for me on Friday night – especially hearing “Wonderwall” sung in the style of Aretha Franklin – never would I have thought…

Saturday’s on-and-off rain was a bummer in Central Park, but by mid-day Chamball players were slipping and sliding in the mud, in one of the coolest mash-up games we’ve ever seen - think dodgeball, tether ball and martial arts and you’re close. We also had a marching band from Yonkers show up to get the crowd hype for Circle Rules Football and we were definitely very surprised to see a group of Iraqi dignitaries (!) watching the games from the sidelines.

Saucony Originals NYC brand reps Jada + Frank handed out close to 1,000 headbands to players and observers in Central Park. Most of the people they talked to thought they were “winners,” so we only had “loser” headbands leftover for Saturday night’s player party – sorry guys!! It does not reflect in any way how we feel about you, but somehow we think you get the humor more than the Little Leaguers who were grabbing headbands uptown.

One of our favorite games all weekend was definitely Circle Rules Football, and the festival judges agreed – it won Best Original Sport + the bronze Saucony Jazz O and beat out the other games for the grand prize of Best in Fest! You might remember that Circle Rules Football was featured in the GOOD Magazine’s Wild Frontier of Sports series that Saucony Originals sponsored last year. We’ve invited creator Greg Manley to lead out NYC office teams through a game this summer – I wonder if they can hack it.
