TIMF Was Awesome!

by nicole - 10/22/09

We’re back from San Francisco! We had such an amazing time at Treasure Island Music Festival! Over 130 records were attempted over the two days which could be a record itself! URDB organized a consistent waiting list of anxious record setters both days and records like “Fastest Time to Cut a Mullet” and “Most Sporks in One Hand” were not only popular but attempted more times than we anticipated. On Saturday we set the record for “Most People to Sing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey” and got an enthusiastic crowd of over 120 people to participate!

The weather was fantastic on Saturday while an unexpected chill slammed us on Sunday but that did little to prohibit potential record setters. The record for “Most T-shirts Put on in a Minute” became popular and we’re assuming it’s because people wanted to layer up!
Obviously there was more than just world record breaking at this two day festival, Grizzly Bear, Beirut, Yo La Tengo and the Flaming Lips killed it! I was still pulling confetti out of my hair on the plane ride back from the Flaming Lips show. Those guys are insane and therefore one of the best live shows you could attend. It was icing on the cake of a great weekend in San Francisco.

Check out all of our photos from the weekend here and check in with URDB.org who will be posting video of the records shortly.

Sonicbids, undefeated 2009!

by sonicbids - 09/16/09

Sun set over the Boston Common like a beacon - calling Sonicbids towards victory and an undefeated season. As dusk fell, the Circle Rules Football pitch held the pale glow of destiny. The Sonicbids team stood poised and ready to etch their story in the history books.

The whistle blew; the team was a mere 30 minutes away. Jim Schultz was a man possessed. Diving and dribbling from underneath his trademark haircut (or lack thereof), fighting on blindly even when his glasses tumbled to the field. David Ellis fought on through early penalties, proving that playing by the rules is not a part of his personal brand.

Benjy Kantor was a ringer. Week in and week out he’s applied the type of athletic prowess that can only be gained at Jewish summer camp, where the toilsome training never stops and the competition is fierce. Steve Canfield placed his own personal wellbeing on the line to score a handful of goals, proving that he takes things like this way too seriously. Jeff Goodman came at the opposing side like a spider monkey. James Laurenti’s defense was impregnable. Pending additional research, Matt Gillette might be the Pistol Pete of Circle Rules Football.

And then there was Heidi Lasker. Drawing comparisons to some combination between Michael Jordan (circa 1982), Pele, Moonlight Graham, Pete Rose (not gambling), that kid in the Mighty Ducks with the knuckle puck, Johnny Damon (pre-haircut), Rudy, and Sparky Anderson. Yeah, she threw down… hard.

Shoebuy was the most formidable opponent the team had seen. Sweat poured. Goals were scored. Hearts pounded. Canfield made a damn fool of himself. And yet:

Five minutes left. 6-1 Sonicbids Cue Music: The Final Countdown, Europe

Final whistle. 7-1 Sonicbids Cue Music: We are the Champions
