Bumbershoot’s second try at the game KUBB ended up more fruitful this year. Bumbershoot overcame a quick first game win by Seattle Weekly by beating them in games 2 and 3. KUBB domination (as in many of the other contests :)) is now another feather in Bumbershoot’s cap.

The Saucony O’s summer office sports league is in full swing, and we have a game lineup next week that’s gonna knock your socks right out of your Jazz Lo-Pros.
Monday August 3rd & Tuesday August 4th - NYC teams plays Kubb in Central Park.
Tuesday August 4th - Chicago teams play wiffle ball in Humboldt Park and our Boston teams play steal the bacon at Boston Common (pray for no rain this time!)
Wednesday August 5th - Seattle teams play touch football under the Space Needle while our SF teams play field crumpets at Draves Field.

Now what the eff is field crumpets, you ask? Field Crumpets is a game played with two teams of players which try to score points by hitting the “crumpet” (generally one of those squishy playground balls) into the opposing team’s goal using their crumpet sticks (big fat wiffle bats). Field Crumpets is highly related to the games Field Hockey and Soccer, though it references several other sports. The game also includes various unique rules, many of which reflect the founders’ desire to emphasize fun and silliness over competition.
We look forward to the silliness!

Bumbershoot excelled last year at the fine game of wiffle ball and were aiming to do so again. The Bumbershoot Hot Dog army was in full force with about 16 people showing up. So we essentially had enough for two teams. And so the first game pitted two teams in the harshest of rivalries. Like a scene from the American Civil War, Bumbershoot Team #1 took on Bumbershoot Team #2. In a not surprisingly close game, Team #1 (or was it Team #2?) won by the scored of 10 to 9. Due to time constraints, it turned out to be the only game for this group of whiffle warriors. A truce was declared, both teams walked away feeling like winners. It was on to Bandits Bar to drink in Bumber-solidarity and victorious glory. Sure, we didn’t play KEXP or Seattle Weekly, but everyone knows we would have beaten them anyway.

My apologies, this will be mostly a picture post as I had to fill in as catcher for one of the teams and missed many end-of-the-year sports reel stats. But I can assure you, a grand time was had by all and I believe it was our cohesion as a Saucony league that kept the rain at bay.
The big W goes to the Seattle WeekLings, and the little w to Bumbershoot for defeating themselves.
On to the photographs!

After a wacky round of Steal the Bacon, with the bacon being not bacon but Patty’s running shoe, Seattle’s teams reconvene on Wednesday July 8th to play some wiffle ball! Seattle Weekly came out ahead in the bacon stealing, but let’s see how good they are with flimsy yellow bats.
