World Beard and Moustache Championships

Good Beard, Bad Beard

We’ve done a lot of market research and determined that a staggering 23% of all male Saucony Originals owners have some form of facial hair (soul patch not included). This is 12% higher than the national average for American males.

Ok, these stats are totally made up, but didn’t you believe me for just a second?

No?

Ok, well DON’T BELIEVE THIS: There is an International World Beard and Moustache championship that has been in existence since 1990! Oh, and not surprisingly, the German teams are really, really good.

At the last WBMC held in Brighton, England, on September 1, 2007, there were 252 hirsute competitors who competed in seventeen separate categories. London’s famous Handlebar Club pulled out all of the stops to make the event a huge success. Upstart Beard Team USA mounted a serious challenge to the always dominant Germans, taking first in five categories.

Elmar Weisser is my favorite hirsute hero. He transformed his beard into the Brandenburg Gate in 2005 and The London Tower Bridge in 2007.
