Certainly not as famous (or brutal) as cock fighting, bull fighting or dog fighting, camel wrestling is a mildly popular sport in parts of Turkey.

Seriously, Camels are really, really good at going for days without drinking, biting your hand or spitting on you. If there were a “grumpiness” competition with other animals, they’d win every time.

But wrestling?

Sure people gamble on it, which is fun and all, but most of the time it’s hard to tell which camel even won the competition. Oh, and the fact that the losing camel often stampedes into the crowd, which one turkish writer views as “pure comedy” and “the best part of camel wrestling” makes me understand why this sport is likely to remain obscure.
