A Record Breaking Good Time at Pitchfork
by Liz - 07/19/09

The bands aren’t the only talent at this year’s Pitchfork Music Fest — the festival goers are really impressing us with their record breaking skillz. Yesterday we saw people break the world record for fastest time to shave one’s mustache and longest time hula hooping on one leg, just to name a couple. If they and the others on our scoreboard hold those records by day’s end today they are going home with a new pair of Saucony Jazz.

Yesterday we also gathered 48 people to set the record for “largest group of people to sing ‘Saturday in the Park’ by Chicago.” Today we’ll try to set the record for most people with their shoelaces tied together.
Meanwhile some of our favorite bands continue to entertain on the three stages. You can check out coverage from our Chicago office teams Venus Zine and WXRT plus our pals from NYC Heeb Magazine.

I know a girl who flew from Orlando to Chicago to hear Grizzly Bear. Not only did she break a world record hula-hooping on one foot, but she actually met the band. She never made it out of Florida to get to Bonnarroo to see Grizzly Bear thanks to horrible event along I-75. As luck would have it, two of her friends won tickets to Pitchfork and offered them to her and her boyfriend. Begging me in tears and using all of her diplomatic skills, she told me she would remember this weekend for the rest of her life. I’m sure she had no idea it would be this remarkable. I hope everyone is having a great time.
